Over 40 feared missing after boat capsizes in Nigeria’s Sokoto State

More than 40 people have been reported missing in a boat accident that occurred on Sunday in Nigeria’s Sokoto State, when the boat carrying about 50 persons to a nearby market capsized, according to the country’s emergency agency.
The passengers were on their way to a popular market, Goronyo market where most food produce in the state can be found, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
A statement on social media platform X by the head of the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaidar Umar said that ten people have been rescued.
The agency has indicated that it is collaborating with local authorities and emergency responders in a search and rescue operation to find the rest of the missing persons.
A similar incident in Niger State about three weeks ago claimed the lives of 13 people and left a dozen more missing after a boat transporting almost 100 passengers capsized.
