Government to launch ‘ruthless’ war against galamsey—Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that President John Dramani Mahama will introduce John Dramani Mahama in the coming days.
This announcement came after the heartbreaking helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the minister said President Mahama clearly stated that the illegal mining menace, locally known as galamsey, will be tackled with unmatched determination.
Hon. Ablakwa stated, “I can confirm to you that you are going to see a fight that has never been witnessed before in this country. President Mahama is going to lead a very ruthless and relentless fight against galamsey.
“He didn’t mince his words. We had a brief cabinet meeting, and the president was very clear that he would lead a war we have never seen before to stop this existential threat confronting us.”

According to Hon. Ablakwa, the upcoming measures will mark a new chapter in the government’s galamsey campaign. Adding that decisive policies and operations are aimed at protecting the environment, safeguarding water resources, and preserving livelihoods in affected communities.
