Jehovah Witness singer Amaarae drops third studio album ‘Black Star’

Ghanaian-American songstress Amaarae has released her third studio album titled “Black Star” on August 8th, 2025, under Golden Child Entertainment and Interscope Records. The 13-track signifies growth in Amaarae’s very successful career, departing from her signature sound “Fountain Baby.” This album is characterized by playful, dance-infused energy.
Amaarae recorded songs in Miami, Brazil, and Los Angeles, working once again with producer Kyu Steed. This project is praised by critics for its creative blend of Boca funk, highlife, Euro techno, Afrobeats, and deep house elements.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Amaarae describes the album’s title as a “triple entendre,” resonating with her Ghanaian roots, Black cultural heritage, and personal artistic identity. In her own words, she remarked, “Black Star is the genesis of me feeling sure and confident in myself.” She urged fans and listeners to listen, dance, and have a good time.
The album features 13 bold tracks with “S.M.O.” being the lead single.
Vogue describes Black Star as “a truly global record—one that reflects Amaarae’s cross-continental upbringing. The artwork finds her in front of the Ghanaian flag in the shape of a star, whilst the name itself is a triple entendre.”
Critics have hailed Amaarae’s “Black Star” as a bold, hyper-stylized, pan-diasporic dance record that cements Amaarae as a global pop artist.
