4 People Arrested over Murder of 70-year-old Woman Accused of being a Witch In Sangbana

Police in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the NortheastRegion have apprehended four people in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman, Noab Bilatukin, at Sangbana village near Bunkpurugu.

On July 10, 2025, the four suspects. Suuk Jakwa, 67; Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32; Moapya Kwayaja, 30; and Amos Nlaji, 29, accused the deceased woman of being a witch and lynched her. However, other people involved are currently at large.

The suspects fled the village after their criminal act.

In a statement released by the police on July 14, 2025, it said, based on tangible intelligence, they have arrested the four suspects at their various hideouts in villages around Bunkpurugu.

The suspects are being interrogated and will be put before the court after investigation.

The police have encouraged people of the NortheastRegion to stop accusing persons, especially the elderly, of being witches or wizards and causing violent attacks.

Police say persons who engage in this act will face the law when caught.
