Mahama Scraps Fuel Allowances for All Political Appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances for all political appointees across Ghana.
The announcement was made public through a presser by Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who underscored the President’s commitment to prudent financial management and accountability in governance. “The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” the statement read.
Political appointees were previously entitled to Fuel allowances for their official benefits, such as covering transportation costs related to their duties. However, the President has now called for an end to this practice to help reduce the cost of governance and rein in unnecessary spending.
The decision was welcomed by many Ghanaians and analyst who have long been calling for more transparent and efficient use of public funds. Ghanaians are now hopeful that the reallocated resources will be channeled into infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Further details on how the savings from this policy will be utilized are expected to be outlined in the upcoming mid-year budget review.
