Nana Agradaa sentenced to 15 years in prison for fraud, charlatanic advertisements

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for defrauding members of her church under false pretences.

The sentence, delivered on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, followed months of legal proceedings after the former fetish priestess and founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry was charged with charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by pretenses.

The case dates back to October 2022, when Agradaa was arrested by the Ghana Police Service after a myriad of complaints from churchgoers and social media users. She had appeared on her self-owned television station, Today TV, inviting the public to an all-night church service in Weija, claiming she would “double” any money brought to her altar.

Hundreds responded to the call, and according to court records, six individuals representing the larger group handed over various amounts of money in hopes of receiving spiritual returns. But the promised “miracle money” never came, leaving victims outraged and demanding justice.

The Presiding judge, Justice Evelyn Asamoah, confirmed that Agradaa was not pregnant by conducting a routine legal check before handing down the sentence.

Many have viewed the court’s decision as a step in the right direction to fight against fraudulent practices, but many people have also questioned freedom of faith and the regulation of spiritual activities in Ghana.
