A tragic incident has occurred in Tomefa, a community near Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality, where a 17-year-old senior high school student, identified as Gloria Segoe, was found dead in a water-filled pit at her boyfriend’s residence after allegedly lying about visiting her sick grandmother.

Gloria, a student at Keta Business Senior High School, secured official permission (exeat) to travel to Agbozome. But instead of heading east, she detoured west—to her boyfriend’s home in Tomefa—and had been staying for three days.
On the third morning, she reportedly went out to wash behind the house and never returned. Hours later, people at the house went looking for her and discovered her lifeless body in a pit filled with water.
The Ghana National Fire Service retrieved the body, and the police are investigating. The boyfriend, now in police custody, claims he was at work when it happened.

The real mystery isn’t just how she died—it’s how a simple lie spiraled into a national headline. We can blame the boyfriend, the school, the parents, or even fate. But it is high time to start treating teenage girls like lives to be protected.
