PRINCOF Reduces Teacher Trainees’ Feeding from Thrice to Once Daily

The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has reduced the number of times students of training colleges will be fed from thrice to once daily.
In a statement on Monday, 16 June 2025, the conference said the difficulty in sustaining the provision of three meals per day within the current allocation of GHS 8.00 per trainee was informing its new decision.

The statement said, “After extensive consultations across all 47 public Colleges of Education, PRINCOF has concluded that it is no longer viable to continue providing three meals a day on the current GH¢8.00 daily allocation.”
The statement also highlighted that due to escalating food prices and outstanding debts to suppliers, many institutions are struggling to provide adequate meals to their students.
As a result, all teacher trainees residing on campus will receive only one hot meal per day, effective immediately.

The statement added that “While we acknowledge the importance of adequate nutrition to trainee welfare and academic performance, we must also ensure that feeding arrangements are realistic and within the financial capacity of our institutions.”
This decision has sparked concerns among students and educators alike about the impact on student well-being and academic performance.
