Missing UEW Professor found buried in his own home

The body of a missing lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeke, has been discovered secretly buried at his own residence in Gyahadze, a suburb of Winneba in Ghana’s Central Region.
The professor had been reported missing until police uncovered a grave concealed within his home.
Authorities have exhumed the body and transferred it to a medical facility for preservation and autopsy. The police are working to ascertain the cause of the death cause and what really happened.
A police statement released on Thursday May 22, 2025, identified a suspect named Joshua Karry Arthur who has been arrested at Essuokyir in connection with the death of the professor.
The police statement also added that, “The deceased lecturer had been reported missing on 21st May, 2025 by his colleagues who had indicated to Police that all efforts to reach him had yielded no response. Police proceeded to the residence of the deceased, where the suspect was found and arrested.”
The suspect was also found with two Samsung phones, a laptop, television and a Toyota Fortuner key, all believed to be properties of the deceased. The suspect is in custody and currently assisting police with the investigation.
In another statement on Sunday, May 25, 2025, UTAG-UEW described the murder of their colleague as a devastating one which has not only shaken up the university community but the entire nation.
Seeking for justice, the association added in the statement that “We strongly urge the police to intensify their efforts to ensure that all individuals connected to this heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.”
The circumstances surrounding Professor Amedeke’s mysterious death remain questionable but police promise further updates as the case unfolds.
