The Mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A), Michael Kpakpo Allotey has revealed plane underway to relocate traders operating on unauthorized areas within the Central Business District (CBD) in the next two months.

He made this announcement as part of his recent effort to decongest the city and improve traffic flow as well as enhance sanitation with a two-week decongestion exercise.

The exercise, also referred to as “Red Line,” aims to demarcate clear zones for movement of pedestrian and regulate trading activities.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, May 21, the CEO of AMA said the exercise was meant for a goodwill.

“Because things are in a rush, we have to make a hasty decision. I know this will help things in the meantime. Within a month or two, I will try and get a place for them.”

“I didn’t ask the traders to sell on the street, and again, they know better that where they are is not the right place to sell. They should come to the market,” he stated.

The operation involves removal of unauthorized structures, mobile vendors and other trespasses that hinders public paths and roads.

The Day 2 of the operation was held at the Circle Neoplan Station on Wednesday, May 21, in a bid to decongest the entire city.
