Sam George Faces Backlash Over Internet Bundle Price Hikes

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has been the talk of social media users for some time, and it is all due to the issue of high internet bundle prices in the country.
Netizens and citizens alike have expressed grave frustration over the price hikes of internet bundles, and what seems to aggravate the situation is Sam George’s sudden silence on the matter.
Within the first quarter of 2025, the Minister announced plans that were aimed at reducing internet bundle costs in order to ensure affordability and access.
This announcement came with the special Independence Day date bundle, which offered a 6 GB worth of internet bundle for GH¢10 across networks like MTN, Telecel, and AT Ghana. In addition, he announced that agreements with telecommunications companies would provide cheaper data bundles on five national holidays in 2025. The most popular move has also been the establishment of the Data Pricing Committee to address the data price concerns.
These measures have not proven to be effective, as individuals still lament bitterly about the continuous rise in the costs of the internet bundle. Some users have even called for the dismissal of the Minister should the problem persist, citing incompetence.
Despite Sam George’s silence on the public outrage, he granted an interview a few weeks ago in which he cited the few roadblocks his team faces in getting the job done. He assured Ghanaians, however, that a strategic working plan was in place to solve the ongoing crisis.
