AMA Commences Annual Ban On Drumming And Noise-Making

Accra Metropolitan Assembly
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially begun its yearly ban on drumming and noise-making, beginning May 12 and lasting till June 12, 2025.
This development is a year-long tradition that is part of preparations for the Homowo festival.

A statement signed by Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at the AMA indicates that the ban affects all residents, communities and organizations within its territory and that includes Gamashie, Ablekuma West, parts of Kasoa and areas surrounding the AMA Head Office.
This directive compels churches, mosques, pubs, and other institutions to operate without musical instruments.
In response, the Ga Traditional Council, fully in support of the ban, has also temporarily stopped funeral rites and similar activities throughout the period.
The AMA has called on community leaders and members to extend mutual respect and tolerance among the various religious and ethnic groups in Ghana. It also stresses that the ban is essential to ensure peace, harmony and national secutity during this significant festive season.
