Ghanaian journalist and social media personality Afua Asantewaa has been disqualified by the Guinness World Records in her second attempt of the longest singing marathon by an individual.
She announced this through her socials on May 8, 2025 in addition to screenshots of the messages she received from Guinness.
The caption of the post read, “It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey, and an incredible experience. Having had the opportunity to explore my potential on the esteemed Guinness World Records platform on two occasions has led to discovery, growth, development, success, and life-altering events that have shaped my being.”

She kicked off her first attempt in December 2023 at the Akwaaba Village in Accra where she aimed to beat the record of 105 hours held by Sunil Waghmare of India. She held a second attempt at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi hoping to beat Sunil Waghmare’s record of 105 hours.
These attempts are a testament to the spirit of perseverance and hard work that needs to be instilled in the youth. Although Akua Asantewaa was unsuccessful in all her attempts to clinch the Guinness World Record title, she has made a bold statement and has been recognized both locally and internationally.
A vital lesson can be drawn from this story: hard work and perseverance may not always yield the desired results but they can provide unexpected results.
