Nigerian artists dominate Afrobeats category at American Music Awards

Nigeria has dominated the Favourite Afrobeat Artist of the Year category at the American Music Awards AMAs 2025, scheduled to take place on May 26, 2025.

The category features a line of very talented Nigerian artists including Rema, Tems, Asake, Wizkid in addition to South Africa’s Tyla.

These artists during the year under review have pulled in their weight further promoting African music on the global music stage.

In 2024 which is the year of consideration, Rema released his sophomore album, HEIS which led to his nomination at the Grammys for Best Global Music Album.

Tems also released her highly anticipated debut album, Born in the Wild – a project which has gained recognition at the Grammys and propelled her a step further in her musical career.

Asake also released his third studio album during the year under review, and he titled this one “Lungu Boy.” With this project, he set a record as the first Nigerian artist to have 3 albums reach NO.1 on Apple Music UK.

Wizkid also released Morayo, his sixth studio album which has further cemented his position as one of the artists who have contributed significantly to project Afrobeats to the global stage.

The American Music Awards honouring these Afrobeat superstars is a big win for Afrobeats, considering how much African artists strive to put their music on the global stage.

The event will take place in Las Vegas on Memorial Day. Hopefully, a West African artist brings it home.
