Sarkodie sues His Lookalike and Ecobank Over Unauthorised Ad

Renowned Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie has filed a lawsuite against Ecobank Ghana and his lookalike for unauthorised use of his image in an ad.
Sarkodie, who is a brand ambassador of First Banks, cliams the Ecobank’s use of his lookalike in their promotional campaign misled the public into believing he endorsed the bank’s service, causing brand confusion and damaginhg his commercial partnership.

His lawsuit demands:
- Permament injuction: Sarkodie is asking the court to order Ecobank from using his image or likeness in any furture commercials.
- Damages: He is also demanding compensation for reputational and financial damages caused by the unauthorized use of his image.
- Removal of Ad: He also want the court to order Ecobank to remove all promotional content featuring his lookalike.
Per Sarkodie’s legal team, using a lookalike of a public figure, especially one with existing endorsement crosses ethical boundaries and jeopardizes their client’s professional intergrity. Ecobank on the other hand has been eight days to respond to the court summons or faces a default judgment
