NPP’s Mohammed Zakou granted GHC 100,000 bail

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist who was arrested for allegedly spreading misinformation about the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has been granted bail of GHC 100,000 by the Achimota Circuit Court.
The culprit, Mohammed Zakou was picked up by policemen on Saturday, April 12, after making a Facebook post that suggested the death of the Vice President. Authorities immediately flagged the said post as a false announcement of the Vice President’s death.
Following his arrest, Mohammed Zakou was charged with the offence of spreading fasle information. Upon interrogation, the accused owned up to the post stating that he made the post but with the intention of goodwill towards the Vice President.
Zakou’s legal team, headed by Gary Nimako Marfo requested bail upon appearing before court on Monday, April 14.
The judge set bail at GHC 100,000 with two sureties. In addition, he is expected to report to the investigator once every week.
The court adjourned the case to May 12, 2025.
