GRA surpasses revenue target in quarter one, records GH¢41bn

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has exceeded its revenue target in the first quarter of 2025, with a whooping record of GH¢41 billion. The target for the quarter was GH¢36 billion.
According to the Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Akwasi Sarpong, the Authority is adopting strategic measures, including widening the tax base to include the informal sector, especially in the Ashanti region.
Meanwhile, the Authority is aiming to generate at least GH¢220 billion in revenue for the country by the end of the year, 2025.
Mr. Sarpong revealed this during a visit to the Ashanti region’s Tax Services Centre to pay a working visit to the staff.
He said that the first quarter performance has been impressive with an improved generation from the Ashanti region. He expressed hope to build upon that to meet the target set for the year. In his words, “We have been given a GH¢220 billion target in the budget and we’re very positive about crossing this target.”
He announced during the visit that the budget set was GH¢36 billion, but generating GH¢41 billion by the end of the quarter was an improvement.
The Ghana Revenue Authority exceeded its revenue target last year mobilizing GH₵153.5 billion.
Looking at the Ashanti region over the years, there’s been an improvement in revenue generation, with customs and domestic collection unit their targets in 2024.
Mr. Anthony Akwasi Sarpong says the Authority is looking at various ways to expand the tax net in the region in order to rake in more revenue from the informal sector.
