24-hour anti-galamsey operation launched in the Ashanti Region

A task force set up against illegal mining in collaboration with the Forestry Commission has launched a 24-hour joint operation in the Ashanti region. The operation led by the acting Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Captain (Retired) John Kwame Jabari, aims to fight illegal mining in forest reserves across the region.
This new arrangement follows an attack on one member of the Forestry Commission’s rapid response team on Sunday, March 23.
Captain Jabari addressing the issue on Monday mentioned the need for adequate security measures to protect the natural resources of the region from further destruction.
According to the Captain, the media alongside the Forestry Commission will be given the opportunity to go through the forest reserves to have firsthand witnessing of the reclaimed lands. He said the experience will serve as a tangible proof of the efforts of the task force to combat the menace and not just verbal reports.

He said the task force also took notice that some of the illegal miners started mining in the evening and pack their machines during daytime, hence the need to operate a 24-hour exercise.
In his words, “We will have a task force that will tackle them during the day and a team that will tackle them during the night, so it is not something that we are sitting down on.”
Captain Jabari further stated that the media would be invited, together with the Forestry Commission to tour the forest reserves within the next week
This exercise is to provide clear and indisputable evidence of the efforts made in reclaiming the lands so far.
