NPP refers Adwoa Safo to Disciplinary Committee over disregard for party directive

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the National Disciplinary Committee for her recent media comments that contravened party directives.
The party issued a statement on March 20, 2025, and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that her actions undermine the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.
Adwoa Safo’s recent media comments, particularly on Joy News’ Pulse Show, violated a directive by the party earlier for party members to refrain from discussing issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection within the party.
Per the statement, as a former MP, Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State, Adwoa Safo was expected to uphold the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity.
According to the statement, her actions are seen as a breach of Article 3(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates members to promote and defend the good name of the party.
Other members of parliament in the NPP have shared their views on this new directive. MP for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Opoku Ansah has urged the NPP leadership to handle Adwoa Safo’s case with sensitivity and fairness, acknowledging her past struggles and the harsh criticism she faced.
The Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, clarified however that the party’s letter to Adwoa Safo was not targeted at JoyNews, but rather at her violation of the party’s directive.
Adwoa Safo has also criticized the General Secretary of the NPP, stating that he has no locus to silence her and emphasizing her right to free speech as a constitutional right.
