Military officer shot dead in Bawku

A military officer from the Ghana Armed Forces has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The incident occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025. The officer, believed to be a warrant officer was targeted while on foot and not in uniform.
The attack took place around the Kpalore-Avengo area of Bawku township.
The officer was from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and had left his position to go to another location when he was attacked.

Bawku has been experiencing a series of deadly attacks in recent weeks. The conflict has led to the deaths of approximately 75 people including women and children.
A woman and her two children were killed in their home by gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms. This incident occurred in Tensungo, a few meters from a military camp in Bawku.
