Minister of Education proposes new reforms for the educational sector

The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has called for the establishment of a dedicated emergency fund in response to the recurring destruction of educational infrastructure due to unforeseen natural disasters.
The minister’s proposal follows the recent disasters that have wreaked havoc on educational infrastructure.
According to the minister, the proposed special fund would be allocated under the Ghana Education Service budget, ensuring rapid reconstruction of facilities damaged by fire outbreaks, rainstorms, and other unforeseen disasters.

During a visit to Labone Senior High School, where a fire destroyed three dormitories, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu emphasized the need for a swift and structured response to such crises.
Hon Haruna Iddrisu stated, “I can’t put a number to the amount of money needed for renovations, but be assured that Labone Secondary School and Northern School of Business in Tamale and a school in Akrokere in the Ashanti region, which was also hit by a rainstorm, will benefit from our emergency intervention.
“But what this wakes me up to the fact that the government must have a dedicated emergency fund to respond timeously to these unpredictable occurrences”.
The government has pledged temporary accommodations for affected students and hinted at constructing new dormitories if the budget allows.
