NIB Detains Gifty Oware-Mensah

Former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA); Gifty Oware-Mensah has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) in connection with an alleged payroll fraud at the NSA. Her arrest came on Friday, March 7th and has since been denied bail despite multiple attempts to secure her release.
Her lawyer, Nana Agyei-Baffour, indicated that she had not received any prior invitation from the NIB.
Initial reports also suggest that former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, John Boadu, had signed for her bail, but she was later moved from the NIB premises and her current whereabouts remain unknown.
The NSA scandal involves allegations of fraudulent activities including payments made to non-existent personnel on the National Service payroll leading the state into financial losses.
Gifty Oware-Mensah returned to Ghana on Tuesday, March 5th after traveling abroad following the 2024 elections.
Before her, former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA, Kwaku Ohene Gyan, was also detained by the NIB in a raid at his residence.

Leading member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has asserted that Gifty Oware-Mensah is being unfairly treated and that other figures, such as Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) and Mustapha Ussif, should also be investigated
An investigative exposé by The Fourth Estate revealed the scandal and fraudulent activities within the NSA payrol system. With respect to the names involved in the scandal, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the freezing of assets of the suspects who have fled the country.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin confirmed that Oware-Mensah had been prepared to face the NIB regarding her alleged involvement in the NSA ghost-name scandal.
