Speaker Bagbin Apologises to Rawlings’ Family and Anlo State

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has issued a formal apology to MP for Klottey Korle Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, her family, and the chiefs and people of Anlo State over the offensive “daughter of a murderer” remark made in Parliament on February 4.
The Speaker strongly condemned the remark as dishonourable and unbefitting of a Member of Parliament, stating that such conduct will not be tolerated.
The speaker made the apology in Parliament on Tuesday, 4th March, a month after the comment was made on the floor of Parliament by an unidentified MP. He said, “In light of this incident, I extend my deepest apologies to Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana and widow of our late industrious President, the family, the chiefs, and all the good people of Anlo Dukor and Anlo land.”

A formal investigation has been launched to identify the MP responsible for the offensive comment. Speaker Bagbin has however given the unidentified MP a one-week ultimatum to come forward and apologize or face the consequences.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and decorum of Parliament. He further reminded the MPs of their responsibility to engage in constructive debate with mutual respect and integrity.
