Juliet Asante opens up on challenges as National Film Authority head

Ms. Juliet Asante
Former Executive Secretary of the National Fim Association, Juliet Asante has opened up about challenges she and her team faced during her tenure; challenges ranging from lack of resources, financial constraints, leadership struggles, and a lack of institutional support.
In an emotional Facebook post, Ms. Asante disclosed that she assumed office without an office to work in, a team, or even a vehicle to facilitate her work.
“With a paper in hand, but no office or money, I set out to recruit staff” she recounted.
The post revealed that the NFA received funds worth GH¢ 1,000 for the entire first year and was subsequently increased to GH¢ 10,000. However, according to Ms. Asante, neither she nor her staff received salaries for two years.
Aside from these challenges, Ms. Asante also opened up about verbal and sexual harassment she endured during her tenure.
She also touched on countless instances of online and offline attacks, including one incident where she was verbally assaulted for a fortnight across three different WhatsApp groups.
However, in the spirit of sisterhood, Ms. Asante congratulated the newly appointed Executive Secretary, Kafui Danku.
