Parliament holds an orientation workshop for MPs’

Parliament on March 1st began a three-day orientation workshop for Members of Parliament at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho. The minority caucus have however boycotted the meeting citing cost concerns.
Organized by the Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI), the event was set to last from Saturday March 1st to Monday, March 3, 2025 and includes training in parliamentary procedures, lobbying, advocacy, and debating techniques to equip the new MPs for legislative work.
However, the minority in parliament made of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, refused to attend the training over the venue and associated expenses.
The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, questioned the choice of the selected venue which is outside Accra and argued that Parliament House itself would have been the best option and save any incurring costs.
In his reference, he pointed out President John Dramani Mahama’s the serious measures in reducing ministerial appointments and the reduction in the number of activities of the Independence Day Celebrations as reasons to prioritize fiscal discipline.
Speaking about the decision of the minority caucus, Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin described the boycott as regrettable and unjustified.
The Speaker further defended the choice of venue, clarifying that a thorough assessment was carried out before selecting the Volta Serene Hotel for the workshop.
